Carmichael welcomes return of Tall Ships Races to Shetland
Orkney and Shetland MP, Alistair Carmichael, has welcomed the return of the Tall Ships festival, starting today [26th July], to Lerwick for the first time since 2011.
Mr Carmichael said:
“The return of the Tall Ships to Shetland after twelve years and the disruption of the pandemic is a massive moment and a cause for celebration. It has brought a great buzz to the town. We rightly take pride in the offer we make to tourists and visitors of all sorts, from music and culture to food and drink. This is a time to welcome the world and show off the best that the Northern Isles have to offer.
“This is only the first day but it already looks like the Tall Ships will be as spectacular as ever here in Lerwick – congratulations to the organisers and helpers for the shift that they have put in. Everyone in the isles can be proud of their work today.”
